Libya’s National Center for Disease Control announced Sunday that it had confirmed 536 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected with coronavirus in the war-torn country to 32,364 by this stage. of the pandemic.

The Center clarified that the new cases were identified during the examination of the samples of 2,512 suspicious cases.

So far, 520 people have succumbed to COVID-19, according to the Center, one of the few institutions with the ability to operate across the country.

In contrast, 18,128 people are thought to have recovered.

Libyan authorities, after detecting the first case of coronavirus infection in March, closed the border, suspended schools and mosques, banned public gatherings and imposed a curfew in a bid to slow it down. But compliance with protection measures and rules in a war-torn country is often impossible.

According to the APE-MPE, the health system in Libya is practically disintegrated, after nine years of chaos and conflicts that followed the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.

The data announced by the Center are not considered to reflect the real epidemiological situation, given the prevailing conditions.
