According to the research in the TTB’s report, it was noted that the Covid-19 pandemic will cause more deaths in the poor, ethnic and marginal groups all over the world, and will increase inequality.

Prof. Dr. According to the results of the research conducted by Ali Kocabaş, deaths due to Covid-19 are seen higher in the poor, deprived, ethnic or marginalized groups who have to work all over the world. In Kocabaş’s article in the 6th month report of the pandemic, “In a study conducted in the USA, it was reported that the probability of negative COVID-19 test was 38 percent in the lowest income group and 65 percent in the highest income group.”

3 TIMES MORE BETWEEN WORKERS

According to the article of Kocabaş, who shared research and evaluations from various countries, it was stated that the number of cases is higher among workers in our country, and in a study conducted by DİSK-AR, it was reported that the rate of COVID-19 positive cases among DİSK members was 3.2 times higher than the general case rate. It is not surprising that the prevalence of the disease in Istanbul is higher in Esenler, Zeytinburnu and Bahçelievler in the districts where physical workers live the most ”.

COVID-19 WILL CAUSE 10 TRILLION DOLLAR COSTS

Despite many uncertainties regarding the spread of the virus and the effectiveness of the measures taken, the article recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic is predicted to cost more than $ 10 trillion, and the following information was included:

“It has been calculated that every 1 percent reduction in the global economy will impoverish more than 10 million people. The greater likelihood of chronic disease in the poorest populations increases their risk of COVID-19-related mortality (mortality per thousand people per year). Increasing unemployment will weaken the welfare level and this will increase the threat of health and social problems ”.

SOCIETY’S MANAGEMENT WILL BE RE-SHAPED

Pointing out that the pandemic will also have political consequences, Kocabaş stated that the peoples will decide which direction this will take. Kocabaş gave the following views in his article:

“* Building a more democratic society can be a more democratic politics, or there may be a shift to more totalitarian regimes involving digital surveillance. This partly depends on what the peoples will do. Which one will dominate the social disintegration or empowerment seems to determine the outcome.

* The virus can enable people to see that the problem of the other, whom they were previously indifferent to, is actually their own problem by embodying global threats, ideas and possibilities that were previously abstract in their minds and bringing them to a real body. I hope this situation will reveal a new generation of actors who defend life. “
