Up to 900 samples of biomaterial are delivered to the center’s laboratory every day.
The Odessa Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which conducts research on COVID-19, is working to the limit.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, this was stated today at a briefing by the chief sanitary doctor of Odessa region Vitaly Goncharov.

“The laboratory of the center works with a heavy load, every day from medical institutions receives from 600 to 900 samples of biological material (for research by PCR-diagnostics – UNIAN), which significantly exceeds its capacity,” – said Goncharov.
He noted that the situation is complicated by the fact that due to coronavirus infection of the laboratory of the Ukrainian Research Anti-Plague Institute. Mechnikov’s work was suspended on September 22.
According to Goncharov, this laboratory receives samples of biomaterial for PCR research from 19 administrative territories of the region. Now, due to disruptions in the work of this unit of the anti-plague institute, the “routes” are redirected to the laboratory center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in Odessa region.
According to Goncharov, since the beginning of the pandemic, almost 120,000 PCR studies have been conducted in the region, including 60% by the Odessa Regional Laboratory Center.
Coronavirus in Odessa
- According to the center, as of the morning of September 25 in the Odessa region registered 12 thousand 468 cases of COVID-19, of which 5 thousand 136 – residents of Odessa. 174 people died of coronavirus, including 8 doctors.
- Over the past 24hrs, 160 new cases of the disease have been registered in the region, 96 of them from Odessa.
