The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) estimates that more than 50,000 people in the Netherlands are currently highly contagious, Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) reports Tuesday evening during a press conference. In March, the total number of infections in the Netherlands was approximately 270,000.

De Jonge reports that the increase in the number of infections differs per region, but that an increase can be seen in all regions. The number of confirmed infections in the Netherlands increased by 4,013 in the past week.

“We now see on the corona dashboard that there are more infections in one region than in another. It increases everywhere, including in all age groups. The RIVM estimates that about 50,000 people are contagious. The virus is far from finished. us “, warns De Jonge.

Last week, 32,000 people in the Netherlands were contagious. That number has risen to 50,000 in the past week. Nearly 300 people are now contagious per 100,000 inhabitants.

De Jonge: ‘See which instruments are appropriate for each region’

The minister also reports that the corona figures will soon also be available in a regional dashboard. “We are developing a regional dashboard. You have to look at which instruments are best suited for each region. For example, it is quite possible that a maximum number of attendees will also be set at catering establishments,” said the minister.

Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge announced during the press conference on Tuesday evening that most people now become infected in the private sphere, such as at parties.
