For the first time, no new deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in China

No new deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in China in the last 24 hours, the first time since China began publishing data on a new coronavirus outbreak in January, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours, however, 32 new infections have been confirmed, all of which have been “imported”.

The growth of coronavirus cases in China has slowed since March, but the country is facing a wave of infections imported from abroad. To date, around 1000 “imported” cases have been reported.

There have also been 30 new asymptomatic infections, bringing the total to 1,033. About a quarter of all asymptomatic cases are ‘imported’.

China began reporting asymptomatic cases for the first time last week as public concern grew that the disease could be spread “quietly” by the virus.

A total of 81,740 infections and 3,331 deaths have been confirmed in China.
