The number of coronavirus infections rose in the country to 10, since the vice president and Minister of Communication, Jorge Rodríguez, reported that there are 8 new positive cases of Covid-19.

He explained that 6 of the patients are men and 2 are women. He said that 3 came from Spain, 2 from the US and 1 from Colombia.

The minister pointed out that there are 2 cases of local contagion in Apure and Cojedes.


He said more than 30 tests were performed, resulting in eight people confirmed by coronavirus. Six are men, two are women, three come from Spain, two from the United States, one acquired the infection in Cúcuta and two became ill in the country – in Apure and Cojedes – when contracting the virus having contact with someone who brought it from someone of those countries.

The patients are kept in quarantine and are in the states Miranda (4), Apure (1), Cojedes (1) and Aragua (1). Among those affected is a Spanish man, an airline cabin crew member.

Rodriguez he asked the Venezuelans: “Stay at your house!”

He added that President Nicolás Maduro will announce collective quarantine measures by regions tomorrow.

He insisted on the use of the masks: “Whoever does not use it puts themselves at risk of contagion.”

In addition, it announced the suspension of flights from the Dominican Republic and Panama. The measure takes effect starting tonight (14-M) and will be adopted for 30 days.

Sentinel Hospitals

Rodríguez reported that this March 14 the 46 sentinel hospitals were visited, to corroborate that they are in a position to attend to eventual cases that are referred by the health authorities.

He noted that 4,800 beds were arranged in 572 Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI) throughout the national territory, with their medical teams to attend any contingency.
