Government will suspend classes throughout the country due to coronavirus – Information – 03/14/2020


The government is going to order the class suspension at all educational levels as a measure to contain the expansion of the coronavirus or Covid 19 in Uruguay after the detection of the first cases, government sources told El País.

At the moment, the National Emergency System defines with the Executive Power the extension of the measure.

Several private schools had announced this Saturday that at least for this week they would suspend their classes. Also the Technological University did that suspended the face-to-face and postgraduate classes until after the Tourism week, without counting absences ”

The Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo Da Silveira had announced on Saturday morning that classes were suspended in the entire department of Salto where two cases of coronavirus were detected and there are more than 100 isolated people.

Delgado is now meeting in Durazno with all the mayors of the country and the representatives of the emergency coordination centers throughout the territory as well as with the president of the Congress of mayors and councilors. Also participating are Health Minister Daniel Salinas, Health Director Miguel Asqueta, and Deputy Secretary Rodrigo Ferres. Delgado will give a press conference at the end of the meeting.
